Some dental problems announce themselves loudly with pain — others are silent until they're serious. Here are the signs worth acting on right away.

Tooth pain is the obvious signal, but by the time you feel it, the underlying issue has often been developing for a while. Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers for more than a few seconds is one of the earliest warning signs worth checking out.
Bleeding gums during brushing or flossing are commonly dismissed as normal, but persistent bleeding is usually a sign of early gum disease, which is far easier to treat when caught early.
Other signs to watch for include persistent bad breath, a loose permanent tooth, jaw pain or clicking, and visible dark spots or pits on tooth surfaces.
If you notice any of these, don't wait for your next scheduled checkup — catching problems early almost always means simpler, less costly treatment.
